Once upon a time, the Qualia Freak was a happy law student at one of the more prestigious universities of England – until, for his sins, including passing his Mods with decent grades, he was exiled for a year to a cold, damp country on the Continent. To cheer up his dreary days of exile, he began a reading spree of (mostly) philosophy, and at some point, he arrived at the most dreary conclusion that all things considered, he doesn’t want to be a lawyer – he wants to be a philosophy don.
The Qualia Freak then wandered up to the bathroom, looked into the mirror, and told himself he was bloody insane for throwing away what could be a rewarding and well-earning career for something that, at best, will keep him alive (results not guaranteed, &c.), and for which he has not had the necessary basic training and will always have a hard time getting ahead.
Then the Qualia Freak made himself a G&T. And another. And a few more.
By the time the gin ran out, the Qualia Freak has got to the point of ‘to hell with all’, and decided to go along with his plans, whatever ruin it is likely to spell to him.
A while later, he decided to start writing a blog (this blog, actually), in which he would chronicle his slow but steady progression from failed lawyer to something in philosophy.
The plot so far
